Diagonal Anti-Knight Sudoku - 1

Hi All, We had posted this puzzle on our website on 17-May-2020. It turned out tougher than it looked but Tiit Vunk, the 2016 World Sudoku Champion, smashed it in just 4 minutes. Thought will share with you all who did not get to solve it online.

Rules of classic Sudoku apply. Additionally, digits do not repeat on both the marked diagonal lines and a digit also cannot repeat in a cell which is at a knight's step(as in chess) from itself.

Hi All,

It had been a long time since I posted a puzzle on the blog. With the website being active for the last one year, I have been busy creating and providing free puzzles there for you all to solve online. If you haven't been there yet, I suggest you head to sudokumaniacs right now and register.

So today's puzzle is a combination or a hybrid sudoku as it is called. The rules of classic sudoku apply. Additionally, each of the 9 digits cannot repeat at a knight's step from itself and also at a king's step from itself. So it is a combination of 2 chess moves.

Hope you all have fun solving it. It is only a slightly difficult side. Happy Solving.


Expanded Sudoku 2019 - 1

To kick of posts for 2019 I decided to try out unusual shapes. To begin with we have an easy Expanded Sudoku. Place digits 1 - 9 in each 3x3 boldly outlined boxes. Digits do not repeat along any extended row or column.

 

Irregular Dots Sudoku 2018 - 1

Today we have an Irregular Dots Sudoku for WSC practice.

Digits do not repeat in any row, column or Bold outlined boxes.. Rows and columns are marked with numbers 1 to 9. There is a white dot between two cells if the difference of the digits they contain is equal to the number of a row/column they are part of. There is a black dot between two cells if the sum of the digits they contain is equal to the number of the row/column they are a part of. All possible dots are marked.


EDIT : Missing dot between R6C2 and R7C2 has been added.

Counting Neighbours Sudoku 2018 - 1

Today we have another puzzle by our guest author Kumaresan. He has created a Counting Neighbours Sudoku.

Rules of classic sudoku apply. Number  in a  cell with  a circle tells you how many distinct digits you can find in up to 8 neighbouring cells (sharing edge or corner). Number in a cell with a cross tells you how many distinct digits you can find in up to 4 diagonally neighbouring cells (sharing a corner). All possible circles and crosses are drawn.


EDIT : There was a missing X at R7C3. I was too caught up in creating team rounds to check it properly. My bad.

Today we have another Arrow Odd Count Sudoku for WSC Practice. This one is my creation.

Rules of classic sudoku apply. Additionally, digits in a circle denote the count of odd digits along its arrow.


Arrow Skyscrapers 2018 - 1

Today, we have another practice puzzle for WSC practice.

Rules of classic sudoku apply. Additionally, Digits along the arrows represent buildings of the height given by its value. Number in a circle tells you the count of visible buildings along the corresponding arrow. Higher building covers all smaller or equal building behind it.

Full Rank Sudoku 2018 - 1

Now that the WSC Information Booklet is out, I thought why not create sudoku's from it so that it helps the participants practice on the variants that are going to appear in the WSC. I am deliberately going to choose new variants and not regular ones.

Today we have a Full Rank Sudoku for practice. Rules of classic sudoku apply. Additionally,  Full rows/columns (read left-right, right-left, top-bottom, bottom-top) form 36 distinct 9-digit numbers.  Their  rank from the lowest is given.

Today we have an Anti-Knight Sudoku. Rules of Classic sudoku apply. Additionally, cells that are at a knight's step from each other, as in chess, cannot contain the same digit.


Non-Consecutive 2018 - 1

It has been a long time since I posted a puzzle. Have been caught up in some sudoku related work which I am happy to share is coming to fruition. So all you Sudoku enthusiasts, keep watching this space for some good news coming your way soon.

Today's puzzle is a non-consecutive sudoku. Rules of classic Sudoku apply. Additionally, orthogonally adjacent cells cannot contain consecutive digits.


Repeated Killer N1 2017

Last day of the year. Had created this puzzle as an example for the IB of the upcoming UKPA Sudoku Championships 2018.

On a lighter note, I thought of naming it as Serial Killer rather than repeated killer :)

Rules of classic Sudoku apply. Additionally, digits on the top left of a cage denote the sum of the digits inside the cage. Digits CAN repeat inside a cage.


Odd Even Count Sudoku 2017 - 1

And today we have the final request of Rakesh being fulfilled. We have an Odd Even Count Sudoku. I had thought that I will be creating this after coming back from the Times Sudoku Championship finals, but since I managed to create it in advance, here I am posting it. There will be a lull on Sunday as I will be out of town for the championship. See you all on Monday.

Rules of classic Sudoku apply. Additionally, An even number placed in a cell with a circle indicates the number of even numbers placed in the surrounding 8 cells. An odd number placed in a cell with a circle indicates the number of odd numbers placed in the surrounding cells. Numbers placed in cells without a circle may have either of these properties.


Next to Nine 2017 - 1

Today we have a Next to Nine Sudoku. Ya you guessed it right. Another request from Rakesh Rai. :)

I must say that as a creator it gives immense satisfaction when a puzzle turns out much better than your expectation. Hope you all have as much fun solving it as I had creating it.

Killer Pair Sudoku 2017 - 1

Today we have another sudoku as per the request of Rakesh Rai. It is a Killer Pair Sudoku. It is comparatively an easy one.

Rules of Classic sudoku apply. Additionally, numbers given on the border between two cells is the sum of the digits in those two cells.


Distance Sudoku 2017 - 1

Another request from Rakesh Rai. A Distance Sudoku. To be honest, this is the first time I think I am creating a Distance Sudoku in a very long time. I don't even remember the last time I created this variant. Creating new variants is a challenge I love. It helps me improve the understanding of the puzzle and while I try to maintain the uniqueness of the puzzle, the applicable solving techniques become more evident. Hope you all enjoy as much as I did while creating it.

Rules of Classic Sudoku apply. Additionally, outside every row and column, the distance between two digits in that row or column is given. The order of the digits is top to bottom and left to right.


No Donkey Step Sudoku 2017 - 1

Today's sudoku is a No Donkey Step Sudoku. This is on a special request by Kishore :)

Rules of classic sudoku apply. Additionally, a digit cannot repeat within 2 cells from itself in any direction, even diagonally.
